The 2026 Spring Games is scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd at Elon University from 8:00am-2:00pm, location TBD.
About Spring Games
Spring Games are a county-specific Special Olympics competition where athletes and volunteers get together for a softball throw and track run, 100 yards or less.
Spring Games Athletes:
Events: Athletes can only compete in ONE event in each category – They do not have to compete in all 3 categories.
Track:
Wheelchair 10 meter
Wheelchair 25 meter
25 Meter Walk
25 Meter Run
50 Meter Walk
50 Meter Run
100 Meter Run
Throw:
Softball Throw
Tennis Ball Throw
Long Jump:
Standing Long Jump
Community Athletes:
Athletes that are no longer in the ABSS school system and lives independently or with guardian.
Group Home/Day Program Athletes:
Athletes that live in a participating group home or attend a participating day program – If you are unsure, please contact them to see if your athlete is attending with them. The coordinators are responsible for signing them up.
Test Day:
Community and Group Home /Day Program Athletes – This is where we will gather times and distances for the events so we can put them in proper divisions.
Spring Games Volunteers:
What would you do as a Volunteer?
There are so many opportunities throughout the day, you could be a buddy (partnered with an athlete or class), a cheerleader, help with track or softball logistics, be a directional guide, and more.
Role Explanation:
- Track: These volunteers are more hands on. You are helping run the event. You could be calling out names, lining people up, marking the race distance, etc.
- Softball: These volunteers are more hands on. You are helping run the event. You could be calling out names, lining people up, fetching balls, marking who is the furthest, etc.
- Long Jump: These volunteers are more hands on. You are helping run the event. You could be calling out names, lining people up, measuring the jump distance, etc.
- Cheerleader: You are on the sidelines of the events, cheering on our amazing athletes.
- Buddy: You are partnered with either an athlete, group home or class. You will be with the athletes all day. You are there to hang out, cheer them on and help out teachers/caregivers keep an eye on the athletes.
- Olympics Town: This is an area where the athletes can hang out and play some games. This is in the same rotation as long jump. They can only go over there if they are not doing long jump or if they are done with their event.
- Lunch Distribution: These volunteers will help pack and distribute lunches
- Directional: These volunteers will help point people in the right direction
- Awards: This is covered by the local Knights of Columbus, but we may need a few extra helpers
- Anything: These volunteers are down to help out wherever they are needed!
